PaleoPebbles

The policy at FossilWeb is to preserve and share the fossil record, not to destroy it. Any fossils I personally find, I gladly donate free of charge to museums and educational institutions. In our store, we offer fossils for sale at minimal cost to share fossils that these institutions have no interest in. Especially exciting is our "Paleo Pebbles", fossil gravel sifted from the Peace River in Florida. Since we don't look through this gravel ourselves (nor "seed" it or otherwise tamper with it!) you can have the opportunity to discover fossils that have never been seen by man; furthermore, you can search for fossils from the comfort of your own home.

Paleo Pebbles

On my trips to the Peace River, I made it my habit to bring gravel back with me. This transformed an evening watching TV to an evening of discovery. This was so much fun, I decided to bring this fossil gravel with me on my frequent volunteer "Fossil Talks" at the Orlando Science Center. There the children (of all ages!) were allowed to search through the siftings to make fossil finds of their own. What a hit! Thousands of visitors were able to take home fossils they themselves had discovered. The gravel is gathered by sifting through a 1/4 inch mesh into a window screen, so you will not find anything that cannot pass through a 1/4 inch hole.

Hi Ed,
I purchased some PaleoPebbles from you a few weeks ago for my son's Easter basket--we just sat down to sift through them last night. What a blast! I cannot believe how many we found. It would have been completely worth it for the shark's teeth and ray plates alone, but there were some other interesting things in there that we have enjoyed identifying. I foresee a fossil book purchase in our future!
You will be hearing from us again soon--we are BOTH completely hooked!

How to Buy

If you don't have a credit card, please email me and we can make arrangements for your order. My smallest package of Paleo Pebbles is 2 pounds. That way, I can ship it in the new small Priority Mail Flat Rate Box for about $4.95. I charge $6.00 for the gravel, so the total amount with shipping will be $10.95. I use Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes for larger sizes too, so you get an even better bargain on them. I'm not figuring to get rich on this, just to defray the costs of the 2-hour drive to the river and running this site.

New! PaleoBeachPebbles!

I recently took trip to some spoil islands built from dredging a boating channel. The material dredged up to form the islands was sediment from the Eocene Ocala Limestone. Since I like to search for microfossils, I sifted some of the sandy sediment through the same sifters I use for PaleoPebbles. When I got home and looked at the sand I was amazed at the number and variety of fossils found. The photograph to the right shows the fossils I found in only 4 ounces of PaleoBeachPebbles.
