Description: These come from the heavily armored limbs of tortoises. A glyptodont has similar osteoderms on its armored tail. One is often confused for the other. Tortoise osteoderms are anchored in the skin without articulation with other osteos. Glyptodont tail osteoderms articulate with other osteoderms so they appear right-angled and pitted.
