Welcome to BassExpert!

Here are some terms we've used in BASS EXPERT and what we think they mean.

  • Shiner: A particular species of large minnow.
  • Spinnerbait: Wire contraptions with a spinning blade attached. They come in safetypin varieties that include Strike King and Turnabout. Inline spinners include the Snagless Sally, Mepps, Roostertail, and Vibrax.
  • Stickbait: A wooden or plastic cigar-shaped lure also known as a jump bait. They include the Heddon Zara Spook, Burke Top Dog, Mann Dancer, Ozark Mountain Wood Walker, Bagley Chug-O-Lure, and Storm Chug Bug. A stick- bait has no action of its own, so it requires the fisherman to develop his twitching skills. Structure: Anything "different" in the water that bass may hang around.
  • Surface Spoon: A shiny metal or wood lure made weedless for retrieving over cover. Examples are the Johnson Silver Minnow, the Skitterfish, and the Sugarwood spoon.
  • Swimming rig: A method of hooking and using a plastic worm. Please refer to chapter 6c. Using the Advice for details.
  • Swimming Spoon: A shiny metal lure made to wobble when retrieved. They include the Dardevle, Little Cleo, Krocodile, and Sidewinder.
  • Texas rig: A method of hooking and using a plastic worm. Please refer to chapter 6c. Using the Advice for details.
  • Tailspinner: A weighted hook with a small spinning spoon, for example, Mann's Lil' George, the Spinrite, the Rooster Tail and the Blakemore Roadrunner.
